Cards Review and the Big 4 Game Series at Wrigley Preview

The Cardinals went to Arizona and took 2 of 3 - and if the Redbirds had a manager with any common sense at all - they would have swept the series. The Cardinals lost game 2 of the series 7-6 in 10 innings. Three very questionable decisions - and the most glaring was allowing Brendan Ryan to hit in the 9th in a 6-6 game with the bases loaded and 1 out - and Ryan Ludwick sitting on the bench. Ryan struck out....what a surprise. On to the 4 game series against the Chicago Cubs:

Thursday, April 16

STL Adam Wainwright (1-0, 1.74) Pretty scary that most experts are saying that Wainwright still has pitched too well at this point...his ERA is under 2.00 - what is he going to be like when he does find a groove...Bob Gibson?

CHC Sean Marshall (0-0, 0.00) Season debut, Marshall is 2-1 lifetime vs. the Cardinals with a 3.38 ERA.

Friday, April 17

STL Kyle Lohse (2-0, 1.13) Lohse is coming off a complete game against the Houston Astros on Easter. He has been money in his first two starts.

Carlos Zambrano (1-0, 3.00) Big Z was 7-2 at Wrigley Field in 2008, but was 1-2 with a 12.75 ERA against the Cards in 2008.

Saturday, April 18

STL Todd Wellemeyer (1-1, 4.50) Wellemeyer only allowed 1 run in 7 innings in his outing on Monday vs. the D'Backs en route to his first victory of the year.

CHC Ryan Dempster (1-0, 4.50) Dempster picked up the win over the Brewers on Monday to get into the win column in 2009, and half the win should have went to Reed Johnson for robbing Prince Fielder of Milwaukee of a Grand Slam. Ryan was 14-3 at Wrigley in 2008.

Sunday, April 19

STL TBA - With the loss of Chris Carpenter to injury - this start is up in the air.

CHC Ted Lilly (2-0, 3.86) Soft tossing lefties have always given the Cardinals fits...enter Ted Lilly. Lilly was 3-0 with a 3.06 ERA against the Redbirds in 2008.
