Kansas City Royals Review/Preview

Things were looking up for the Royals coming into this past series with the Yankees. Then we started to see more of the same thing we saw last year, and even in the latest games against Chicago. The guys who need to start hitting couldn't do it, at least not early. Guys like Mike Jacobs and Alex Gordon aren't smacking the ball like they can. We are still leaving way too many guys on base, this speaks to the bottom end of the line-up mostly, so we'll see where that goes. Jose Guillen is still on the 15-day DL with a partially torn hip flexor. Alex Gordon was out yesterday with a stiff hip, but is expected to be back in tonight's game. There was some light at the end of the tunnel, with the offense putting up 6 runs to beat the Yanks 6 to 4 on Sunday, with the help of John Buck firing everyone up with a solo shot to left in the bottom of the third with one out. He's now hitting .500 and went 3 for 4 yesterday. This seemed to have kicked the other guys into gear, and Brayan Pena came in and hit a double, as did Buck and Teahen. Coco Crisp hit a triple as well. The Royals now look forward to a three-game home set against the Cleveland Indians.

Game 1
Monday April 13, 2009 at 7:10pm CT vs. Cleveland Indians
KC Zack Greinke (1-0), vs. CLE Fausto Carmona (0-1)

Game 2
Tuesday April 14, 2009 at 7:10pm CT vs. Cleveland Indians
KC Kyle Davies (0-0), vs. CLE Carl Pavano (0-1)

Game 3
Wednesday April 15, 2009 at 1:10 CT vs. Cleveland Indians
KC Sidney Ponson (0-1), vs. CLE Jeremy Sowers (0-0)

This should be a much better performance from the boys in blue, especially since the Indians are now 1-5 and we seem to be finding our offensive stride. Pitching should not be a worry at all, with Greinke looking to show another great performance, along with Davies and Sidney Ponson, who, surprisingly isn't as bad as people thought. I know I called for a sweep for the Royals against the Yankees, but I think this time it will actually happen. Now we just need Buck, Teahen, Gordon, Crisp, and the other guys to connect and not leave any guys on base.
